Idolatrous Christianity

Behold the photos and videos of the Pope and his retinue of cardinals, bishops and acolytes in full regalia; his participation in gatherings with the rich and powerful while the common man views the spectacle from afar (the 2008 mass in Washington’s baseball stadium, for example); the ring-kissing ritual; the elaborate ceremonies; the sumptuous vestments; the host of saints, effigies and graven images; the inscrutable theological jargon. None of it bearing the slightest hint of the humble image and simple message of Jesus Christ. All of it in blatant violation of the First Commandment. All of it Sheer Idolatry harking back to the Chosen People’s worship of the Golden Calf. And ditto for the borderline orgiastic rituals and gaudy trappings of televangelist Protestant Sects. (Recall the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and the Jim and Tammy Fay PTL Club), and the mind-controlling Mormon bureaucracy.

If it’s true what the Bible says, that Jesus will return from Heaven to establish his Kingdom on Earth—“And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matt: 24:30)—my guess is that he has returned already, on several occasions, but seeing the terrible job his benighted followers have done in paving the way for him, he returned to Heaven to wait some more, until they get it right.
